Mellow yellow
Cowslip ‘bells’
Jingling in scented meadows
And musty dells; amongst
Salty springy mosses.
A distant lark flutters;
The ethereal song mingling
With chimes from the sacred
Woodland.

Pyramidal Orchids
Like Amethyst torches,
Glimmering high in
The chalk passes,
Where shimmering faeries
Dance to the sound
Of lyrical Skylarks.
I love these beautiful wild orchids (Anacamptis pyramidalis). On our walks it is often difficult not to walk on them! These little magical torches of the fairy world are scattered over the chalky downs of the Chiltern hills.
For miles
The meadows are frayed and
faded
Like antique millinery and worn
Linen upholstered chairs.
Tearing through mournful layers
Serendipitously,
Yellow, playful
Dayglo
Trefoils romp
In the pasture,
Lightening,
Brightening,
As an Oxeye daisy
Lazily looks on.
