Weekly Photo challenge: Nature’s my companion

image

A cuckoo wakes me
From my slumber,
Sunbeams warm
My face,
I venture out
To my garden
Brimming
With cherished
Cottage garden
Flowers,
Shades of
Fondant fancies
and
Tumbling
Roses, frilly
Favourites
Of my youth.
Gathering
Notebook
And camera,
I start the
Adventure
With my
Collies
At my side.
We walk
Along the
Country lane,
Surrounded
By white confetti
Hedgerows.
Cabbage White
And Orange tip,
Dart about
Like inquisitive
Chaperones.
When evening comes
In sultry moans,
The breeze intones
A lulling soft woe;
Stillness follows
In soft focus
Dimming daylight.
I sit undisturbed
To soak up nature,
Forever
My companion.

The weekly challenge is to post a photograph which is inspired by the word ‘companionable’. As usual I’ve written a poem to match my photo. I hope you enjoy it.daily-prompt-companionable

Wildwood fantasy

image

My childhood fantasy
Took me to the wildwood
Of my dreams.
Here in the wildwood
Existed earth
Sprites and nymphs.
I glimpsed them
Dancing and
Singing mysteriously.
I wished I was
Part of their world.

This poem was written from a poetry writing prompt, to write a poem using the following keywords: fancy, tree, childhood, exist, earth.

Wise garden gate

image

Garden gate
Creaks apologetically,
Proudly protecting
The spirited woodland
Flowers,
Towers of ivy
Secreting lovers
Poetry
And plump
Opinionated
Peonies standing proudly.

Old  Boots and clogs
Scuffle, shuffle.
Dainty slippers,
Hide amongst old oaks,
Waiting to be found.

Elegantly embroidered
Shoes,
Skipping beneath
Romantic boughs,
Pregnant with blossom.
Whilst they whisper
Their wildest thoughts,
Chastity keeps
Them apart.

Flamenco fire

image

Confident fiery,
Flamenco,  flamenco.

Waves of velvety pollen,
Blooming, petticoats.

Cascading carnelian curls,
Flashes of cadmium orange
Lips, laughingly,
Catching Cavaliers.

The carnival begins.

A-Z writing challenge, ‘U’ Undulating experience

image

Quiet backwater,
Contemplates,
Undulates, waiting
For enchanted admirers
Who seek tranquillity.

As dreams unfold,
Nature’s story is told,
Larks chorus,
Wood pigeon’s purr,
Swans drifting
Waiting for waters to stir.
Red Admirals flirt
With nectar rich flaura,
Honey bees
Seek wild Primula.

A-Z Writing challenge, letter ‘T’ Treasure

image

Treasure
Warmth,
Touching
Roundness, smooth,
Silkiest natural palest
Pebble, greys, browns.

Treasure their free
Affectionate playful natures,
Deep, soulful, sky blue
Eyes, knowing.

Treasure moodiness,
Turbulent swell,
Spitting waves,
Sudden dry saltiness
In the air.
Invigorating
Thirst,
Mezmerised
By shimmering,
Laboradite waters.

To treasure
And be treasured is
A calm knowingness.

A-Z writing challenge letter N for Natural Norfolk

image

Lowland broads,
Waves of reaching reeds
Swaying, singing
Melodies of reed
Cutters dreams.
Creeping purr of
Broadland cruiser
Breaking reed
Warblers’ songs
As geese scatter to
The wind.
Cirrus clouds cruise
Cerulean skies
Like galleons in full sail.

A-Z writing challenge letter M Message in the sand

image

One wild, dangerous night,
Church bells, deep in the sea
Chimed furiously at midnight.
Flickering flame from a fisherman’s
Lantern suddenly snuffed out
As rolling waves
Roared to a crescendo.
Turbulent sea churned spitting out
Remnants of the night.
The message in the sand.

A-Z writing challenge, letter L for listening to silence

image

Listen to silence.
Listen to breeze
Swishing through reeds
Writing messages to nymphs who
Pass along the meandering river
To the sea.
Listen to kingfishers dive into
The river with precision,
Proudly emerging with their catch.
Listen to the rustling of cootes
Weaving in and out of the bullrushes.
Listen to the silent crackling of
Weeping willows draping
Wispy branches solemnly.
Listen.  Listen to silence.

A-Z writing chalenge, letter K for Kaleidoscope

image

Kaleidoscope aura colours
Metamorphic,  whirling
Around Redwood’s giant stronghold.
Healing resins ooze,
Vanilla, cinnamon, pine.
Orbs float like snowflakes
As Shamans move
Between worlds.
