Dahlia Lino cut print

Time for me to stop playing and retreat to the Art Studio. I’ve done a few dahlia sketches, so time to cut my lino. This time I’ll do a single colour, burnt Umber relief printing ink. Here’s one I selected, printed on cartridge paper. I hope you like it!

Holly hocks ball

Ruby red holly hocks,

Silk swirling frocks,

Mingling at the summer ball.

A scented breeze,

Timely sends bursting buds to

Rest upon the lawn.

Purposely the lover places them in

A wicker box, ties it tight with forget-me-nots;

With red rose ink he pens

‘Holly meet me tonight at the folly’.

The story begins.

Summer colour in the cottage garden

The above link to my Lavendermoongirlsbrownharecottage wp site will take you to where the inspiration came from for this poem and photo and will give you more insight into my cottage garden.

Rocking Hollyhocks

Rocking Hollihocks

Rocking Hollyhocks,

Like nodding, bobbing dollies.

They frollick from every folly, hedge

And cottage.

I just love these wonderful old cottage garden flowers that are nodding and bopping about from almost every garden around Bedfordshire. These were smiling at me from a cottage garden in the village of Cardington.

Enjoy 🙂

Hooting Hollyhocks

Hollyhocks hoot
Loudly, as they
Shoot their stocky
Limbs,
High into the sky.
Large frilly bells,
Like lemon meringue,
Heavenly sherbet high!
