Inspired by Squash

I love growing squash, but this year, I reckon because of the drought, the harvest was disappointing. The squash were much smaller. However they have made a very good Still Life subject. I feel inspired by their textures, colours and those fabulous stripey designs. I actually like the dried slightly mouldy wizened stem!

My painting is work in progress, in oil on canvas gesso board. The oil is quite damp so I’ve got time to think about any changes I want to make.

The weather is warm here, the light fabulous for showcasing autumnal colours everywhere in nature. I’ll miss the swallows though!

I hope you’re having a good autumn.

Glorious bees

Glorious bees thrive on electric blue filament like petals,

Glowing in a golden sea of pollen.

This wonderful structured plant, Cynara, like a giant artichoke has electric blue petals, however morning light and exposure has made them purple!

After a long period of very hot weather for the UK, the garden has welcomed rain and a cooler period, as I have deadheaded and weeded I have noticed bees and butterflies more often. My lawn is the colour of straw and probably won’t recover this summer.

I hope you are having a god day. Apologies for my go slow blogging at the moment due to disruption in routine as the builders have been at home. The resulting conservatory needs decorating and furnishing but has brought so much light inside the cottage, and I can enjoy changing weather, sunrises and sunsets as well as starry nights from inside!

Flower power

The garden is surprising me every day with new blooms. Time for recording their wonderful shapes and colours. Here are a couple of Watercolour sketches I did yesterday and today. The experience was very relaxing and my paint dried very quickly in the heat!

Both unfinished but hopefully capturing the essence of our colourful garden!

First frost breathes…

First frost breathes through crystalline teeth,

Steeping brightly hued blooms into a moon dipped

Weeping sleep.

I look down the garden now at the damp brown rotting garden and remember the warm days filled with summer fresh scents; butterflies and bees everywhere. Then came the first frost, it was such a shock but turned the garden into a magical place, frozen and beautiful. I am so grateful for nature. As the garden lies sleeping,  I enjoy every day as a different day. I can see the birds hopping about and the gentle mellow yellow sunshine through watery leaves.

The journey begins

As you know I’ve been busy starting to renovate our Victorian cottage. I apologise for not posting but I have been rushing up and down the motorway to the cottage every day and working until dusk as there are no lights in the cottage yet. I love Tuesdays because as I work away, stripping off old wallpaper, I am serenaded by the bell ringers practising in our local church. Outside is dark and peaceful. I love it, my artistic project to bring back this little house to the Victorian era, with rustic modern and vintage features and make it a happy home again. The quarter of an acre cottage garden will be restored too, to include an orchard and my Art studio.
Hopefully here’s the link you requested. Enjoy my tales and please still read my poetry here because the rambles continue! Many thanks for all your support. ๐Ÿ™‚

I loved walking along this garden path discovering the magic of the cottage garden.Look how the Buddlea draws us closer to the open blue framed bedroom window. Perhaps an artist is sitting there painting the view and enjoying the scented summer. For me, experiencing this hideaway garden was a very special moment. I hope you enjoy it too. ๐Ÿ™‚
