I couldn’t resist this shot of the cat reclining on the balcony, enjoying the sunshine. We were walking our dogs along the Grand Union canal at Berkhamstead, a lovely English town full of interesting shops, architecture, history and a canal and railway going through it.

Layers of leaves,
Maturing over
Many years
Of stormy winds,
Shaking trees.
Magnificent
Colours,
Russet,
Mottled olive;
Fatefully fluttering,
Flaking and fainting;
Mingling,
Tingling
With frost;
Splattered
With raindrops,
Rhythmically
Singing
A lullaby
For creatures
Snuggling
In the moss.
Little pony,
Lonely,
Inquisitive eyes,
Watches walkers’
Lives.
Waiting
For a friend
To groom him
And gallop
To the moon,
Hopefully soon!
A habitual walk,
Time to think or talk;
Every day,
Sunny or grey;
Pull on boots,
Choose a route.
Lake or lane,
Disused railway line,
Hill or vale.
Serendipitous shot!
Notebook scribbling,
Sibling collies’ wriggling
Husband giggling.
Always fun,
Time for a bun.
Where’s the sun?
Rambling,
Sampling woodland’s
Mysterious planting.
A green woodpecker
Catches my eye,
Feasting on the forest floor,
Fleeting through an
Oak nook ‘door’.
The collies love to roam
Chasing off a forest gnome,
A robin red breast hops,
Flopping amongst the moss.
Squirrels scramble in the leaves
Time to amble home for tea.
Curious conkers,
Prickly protection,
Secret affection.
Chivalrous chestnut,
Galloping eyes;
Smooth, sleek,
Fiery and meek;
Ghostly mane
Like a train
As the chestnut
Unicorn’s gaze
Fades into
The forest.
Seek the warmth of life. Rekindle, nurture the parent in us and also the child within. Take time for you.
