Warm wishes to all

It’s been a very strange year of many ups and downs and I apologise to everyone who follows me, likes my blog and enjoys reading my posts. I promise to make 2019 the year when I pen my poetry and get painting again. After one of our beloved Border collies died suddenly last year, the arrival of our Slate merle pup in early spring and Skye, our surviving blue merle having a Stroke, I wondered whether life would ever become calm again.

However, Storm is a year old now, pictured above, and has a lovely nature; she gets on really well with Skye and has helped Skye get over her Stroke by assisting with her physio!

We’ve had lovely holidays in North Norfolk walking along the Coastal path, across the salt marshes and on Holkham beach and I have enjoyed a few hours here and there to paint.

I hope you like my photos and my watercolour painting of the cheeky robin who visits my bird table every morning. I have designed a Christmas card, so he can be enjoyed by friends and family.

I wish you all a warm, peaceful and jolly Christmas and the best of luck for 2019!

Glorious bees

Glorious bees

Glorious bees thrive on electric blue filament like petals,

Glowing in a golden sea of pollen.

This wonderful structured plant, Cynara, like a giant artichoke has electric blue petals, however morning light and exposure has made them purple!

After a long period of very hot weather for the UK, the garden has welcomed rain and a cooler period, as I have deadheaded and weeded I have noticed bees and butterflies more often. My lawn is the colour of straw and probably won’t recover this summer.

I hope you are having a god day. Apologies for my go slow blogging at the moment due to disruption in routine as the builders have been at home. The resulting conservatory needs decorating and furnishing but has brought so much light inside the cottage, and I can enjoy changing weather, sunrises and sunsets as well as starry nights from inside!

Art fushion

We’ve been having building work done at home which although exciting , I find it turns my usually fairly calm life into chaos.

So, as I haven’t been able to hide away creating in my Studio for a while, yesterday I went to another Artist’s Studio which was a beautiful tranquil space to learn about Glass fused designs.

At first I felt scared even cutting glass let alone grinding glass into shapes, however, after a while I found I really enjoyed creating my flower, dahlia design out of coloured glass offcuts. My flower will be fused in the kiln and next week I’ll pick it up. I Can’t wait to see the result! It was lovely to be creative without too many distractions.

Sunflowers swirling

Sunflowers swirling,

Warm faces wearing seaside hats;

Tower over faded filligree blooms;

A haven of stamens twirling,

Toasted cinnamon seedheads crackling

In marmalade sunshine.

Holly hocks ball

Ruby red holly hocks,

Silk swirling frocks,

Mingling at the summer ball.

A scented breeze,

Timely sends bursting buds to

Rest upon the lawn.

Purposely the lover places them in

A wicker box, ties it tight with forget-me-nots;

With red rose ink he pens

‘Holly meet me tonight at the folly’.

The story begins.

Summer colour in the cottage garden

The above link to my Lavendermoongirlsbrownharecottage wp site will take you to where the inspiration came from for this poem and photo and will give you more insight into my cottage garden.

Poppy walk

Sunny morning,

Swifts soaring;

Dog rose scented air.

Maiden’s garlands,

wedding bells afar.

Harebells & summer fairs

Dancing campions,

Wild flower champion

The scarlet poppy!

Dreamy Meadow

Lazily, toe by toe,

Treading on wispy grasses;

Soft silk bed of fresh miniature flora.

Soaring high –

 Skylarks, their

Singing lingers like lover’s whispers

Before vanishing through dreamy vapours.

Cow parsley’s filigree fountains

Shower the wake of Ox Eye daisies.

Hazy white petals slightly dazed,

Enjoy sherbet scented kissing wind.

Amazing alliums

Amazing alliums,

Purple blazing pom poms

Like a summer Starry sky.

Gazing at the trailing constellation,

Warmed by satiated petal faces.

These gorgeous alliums are enjoying their performance in our newest border;  an explosion of deep magenta, so structural and yet delicate and elegant.

Rhapsodic Roses

Rhapsodic roses

Tumbling from pergolas

Showering our senses with

Aromatic essences;

Dreamy marshmallow,

Teeny fairy dancers,

Sprinkles of sherbet,

So tangy with a hint of lemon curd;

Silky peach petals so delightful,

Fluttering in buttery summer light.

Swathes of summer blooms

Swathes of summer blooms,

so soon their petals will crumple and fade.

For many more sultry days,  bees will  bathe and tumble in pollen,

And many of us will loll about entranced by their hypnotic tune.
