Shoots produding,
Shiny Buds swelling,
Pussy willow a silver sensation!
Petals waxy, honey sweet.
Catkins like knitted fingers;
Golden rays warming
Our hearts on cold days;

In the month of January, we often give up rich and often sweet foods and opt for healthy options. This month has been called Veganuary! I have heard of a number of people trying the Vegan diet. I have cut down on sugar and alcohol and dairy and increased my daily intake of fruit. I am also enjoying a quiet nurturing time at home, cooking wholesome meals and soups. I am reading new poets to me, novels from a endless big pile, books about the British countryside and farming and I am trying to sketch more often. Here is my simple pastel drawing of the big red apples which are simple, nutritious and delicious. Treat yourself, simply. Enjoy!
Blossom floats blissfully
Like gossamer,
Kissing our faces
With fairy breath.
On my walks now blossom is bountiful in wonderful rich cherry pinks to the most delicate whites. It is the translucent whites which I love to look up and see wonderful patterns and shadows and smell nature’s sweet spring breath. Magic!
Spring splashes
Between weary evergreens
And lean stretching trees.
A golden brook of
Daffodils lyrically babbles
And violets hide in every nook,
Adorning the woodland floor.
Spring’s door has gently opened,
Surprising us and giving
Hope.
Yesterday, even though the sunshine didn’t manage to peep through the clouds, spring’s door had opened with its perfumed breath. Joyously, we walked through an old Victorian park in Bedford, chatting and taking in the splashes of emerging colourful buds and flowers. It was a beautiful day. Thank you nature and thank you friends for putting up with me diving about taking photos. 🙂
Amazing Amethyst floral display,
Whimsical,
Mysterious,
Blazing,
Star gazing.
A glorious array!
Happy blazing June, at last. May the sun shine on all of us!
Foxglove finials,
Intoxicating,
Scintillating.
Turrets towering
Over Cowparsley
Handkerchiefs.
Campion lamps
Shine over
Fae folk feet.
Foxgloves are also called ‘Fairy petticoats’ and ‘Fairy thimbles’. There are three symbolic meanings of this beautiful wild flower: insincerity, youth and a wish. I see them everywhere on my walks decorating the borders along fields. Often as I get closer, a baby rabbit peeps its head out and leaps about amongst the grasses and flowers.
We all cope with life’s challenges in different ways. As you know I love nature and everything natural and find the power of nature very healing. I love this peaceful image of the closeness of the geese, safely warming themselves on the opposite bank of the Grand Union Canal near Tring.
This post is called ‘Om Yam Om’ because it is a healing Bija mantra(sounds) for the Anahata chakra (heart chakra). I’ve been sounding this lovely mantra as part of my yoga practice. I’ve also been working on a yoga asana sequence from Swami Ambikananda’s book, ‘Healing yoga’, to purify my mind and body through balancing the heart chakra. This chakra governs the impulses of all the communication systems in the body, particularly that of the nervous system.
The experience of working to balance the heart chakra is very calming. We can all open, speak through our hearts, listen to our hearts and feel peace.
You can find out more about the chakras and mantras here, where there is a utube mantra video too.

Lilac lyrically
Soothes the
Humble Bumble,
Busily mumbling
And tumbling
In a jumbled
Shoal of sherbet,
Elfin confectionery.
Lilac starlets
For Fairy Queen’s
Tartlets.
Folklore describes the lilac tree as bringing peace and harmony. It represents spring having arrived and draws protective spirits into our lives. The lilac is buzzing with nature spirits where music is always being played bringing harmony into our lives.
