A splash of colour

I posted a week ago this painting emerging. It is still work in progress, however as the days get shorter and cooler as autumn advances , every day I have looked at the bright jewel coloured flowers, wet with new rainfall and glowing, however soon they will be gone. So I have picked blooms which have fallen and taken them into my Studio to paint them. The result as I work is serendipitous because the blooms have chosen to be part of my painting. It will take a few weeks to complete, but I am happy with it so far. The paint is very wet do I will be continuing with watercolours and prints.

Love hedgehogs

The light wasn’t great when I photographed the early stages of my watercolour painting of a hedgehog. I will build many transparent colour layers to create this little hog. I’ll aim to capture an essence of his character. I’m waiting for the paint to dry before I carry on.

I’ll update you soon with how my little hog painting is coming on!

It is a joy to be making puddles of colour again, adding water and letting my brush drop colour onto the paper.

Whilst I’m waiting, I’ll make a hot chocolate or chamomile tea to warm my hands.

Warm wishes to all

It’s been a very strange year of many ups and downs and I apologise to everyone who follows me, likes my blog and enjoys reading my posts. I promise to make 2019 the year when I pen my poetry and get painting again. After one of our beloved Border collies died suddenly last year, the arrival of our Slate merle pup in early spring and Skye, our surviving blue merle having a Stroke, I wondered whether life would ever become calm again.

However, Storm is a year old now, pictured above, and has a lovely nature; she gets on really well with Skye and has helped Skye get over her Stroke by assisting with her physio!

We’ve had lovely holidays in North Norfolk walking along the Coastal path, across the salt marshes and on Holkham beach and I have enjoyed a few hours here and there to paint.

I hope you like my photos and my watercolour painting of the cheeky robin who visits my bird table every morning. I have designed a Christmas card, so he can be enjoyed by friends and family.

Chinese lanterns, toadstools and more…

These prints were very simple to produce. I used a foam material like ain apizza base to cut the design of the Chinese lanterns

Next you draw your design into the foam using a biro or pencil.  Mix your coloured ink and roll on to your plate thinly. Put cartridge paper over the plate then with your print roller,  roll up and down.Lift your paper gently off your printing plate and your image appears printed! Great fun, easy and can be done with children.

This watercolour sketch of a toadstool from the Agaric family , I found in an old sketchbook. It’s at least 10 year’s old but surprisingly it has held its vibrant autumnal colours. 

Midsummer cheers…

Midsummer meadows cheers our hearts.

Bees reeling in floppy poppies, 

Quaint corn cockles and radiant daisies jostle with lazy scabious

Lofty butterflies surf the breeze filled with meadowsweet mist.

Wishing seeds glimmer in honeyed rays,

Teazels  sentinels of the fields, guard the wildflower maze.

Haystacks rest on dusty fields waiting for midsummer to heal.

The troubadour

The troubadour seeks hellibores

As his muse,

He visualises a heart wreath made of

Velvet warm petals,  meek rose pink

Twinkling  flowers and snow whites in fine fettle:

A delicate meander of pattern and colour.

From his medieval stone garret,

He weaves his words of love and valour.

Deep in slumber!

January’s Frosty Jewels

January’s frosty jewels glisten on a

Salted caramel lawn.

​Chinking crystals wink at precious paws tingling;

Fairy ice dusted catkins jingle as they mingle.

Hooray! Warming rays ablaze.

My apologies for not posting for a while. As winter has truly set in, there seem to be so many jobs to get done that  get in the way of creativity. I photographed plants in my garden for this post and one of my dogs of course. They are always wanting to be involved in whatever I am doing. Keep cosy if you have cold weather!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my blogging friends. Thankyou for visiting and commenting on my blog over the year it is wonderful to have so many online wordpress friends.The last month has been challenging for me because I have injured my spine and cannot sit or stand for very long! Everyday gets better though, but festivities will be quiet for us this year. Hubby has also had a nasty chest infection, there are so many bugs about at this time of the year.

Walking is a great way of helping my back pain but the dogs are having to put up with walks around the village for a while until I get stronger and then I’m sure I’ll feel inspired again to write more poetry. However, I will be keeping warm by my fire, having lots of lovely nibbles and warm drinks.

The mantel decorations are all from our lovely cottage garden. I hope you like them.
