Blackberry burst

This photo was taken during a walk along the Grand Union canal at Winkwell, a wonderful name for a village!Β  I loved the rich, ripe colours of the berries in this sunny spot.

Blackberries burst
From every hedgerow,
Thrusting juicy jewels,
Ripening purple pearls.
Stolen stains on
Satiated lips.

  1. I adore blackberries! Nothing better than a crumble made with freshly picked blackberries. Excellent poem, good enough to eat! πŸ™‚ x

      • Winter in Wales has been good so far, had a few beautiful frosty mornings. Can’t believe Christmas is nearly here! Hope you’ve been enjoying some winter walks at Ashridge πŸ™‚ x

        • I bet frosty mornings in Wales will be wonderful, it’s quite a magical landscape. We haven’t been to Ashridge for a few weeks but my husband will be on holiday for ten days over Christmas so I feel we’ll be walking there and stopping for Hot Chocolate and cake. Are you going home for Christmas?

          • Hot chocolate is essential in winter! It is a magical place, I was at the Brecon Beacons a few weeks ago and the views were just stunning. Very much enjoying living here. I also have ten days off for Christmas and the New Year, where I will be home visiting family and friends. Looking forward to the break! Hope you have a nice time when you visit Ashridge πŸ™‚ xx

            • Happy New Year Becky! I’ve neven been to the Brecon beacons, I’ll have to visit this year. I hope you are enjoying your holiday at home. We went for a walk to Ashridge today and even though the weather was dull and overcast, it was still beautiful and had a dreamy quality. πŸ™‚

  2. Do you know Today I froze about a punnet of blackberries from our allotments, We didnt think we would get many as we cut back the brambles as they had encroached around the shed, But they are ripening fast and after soaking overnight I open froze them on a tray today… Last week they didnt last that long, they made a nice Apple and Blackberry crumble πŸ™‚ xxxx Lovely photo..

    • I can imagine eating your delicious crumble. I’m still enjoying the wild Hedgerow brambles. There are lots of elder berries ripening now and the birds are rapidly eating them. Are we in for a cold winter? Do you have any good elderberry recipes Sue? I quite fancy jam? πŸ™‚

      • Yes I feel a harsh winter in the making Lavender Girl, My Dad was a good predictor of weather and nature, He watched the Berries and Nature and everything points to a harsh one, as nature is providing abundance in her autumn harvest…. I am storing up like a squirrel this year, we have 3 freezers and a back up generator just in case!…so far we have never needed it, but there is always that But! …. I would so dislike all our hard work to go to waste with the failing electric..

Do you keep an eye on the sky also Lavender Girl ? by that I mean Chemtrails????

We have noticed they are not Cheming in the day but at night, Just been outside to look as the Moon lights up our sky.. and its a criss-cross of trails….. and no they are not commercial flights,
Wonder if you were aware of them?

        • I’m always looking up at the sky. It is always a busy one here as I’ve noticed we’re right on a busy flight path and I’m aware about chemtrails and global warming and also the theory about the possible release of toxic gases into the air, terrible for the planet Sue.
