Weekly photo challenge: Nostalgia: Memory cottage

photo challenge, ‘nostalgic’image

Granny’s gate
Always open.
Skipping along
The cobbled path,
Brushing by
Candyfloss flowers
And lollypop lupins.
Icing sugar windows
Glisten.

West wind blows
Memories through
The front door;
Wibbly wobbly
Licorice beams
And painted furniture
For the three bears.
Rippling rose syrup
Ice cream topped
With sugar violets,
Savoured whilst
Wooed with
Tales of olden days
And recipes of
Dripping pink
Iced buns and
Drizzling
Lemon cake.

Whispers of
Garden Fairies
Painting dainty
Dust on playful
Plump plums,
Blushing berries
And sparkling
Strawberries.

Glowing gran
Kisses goodbye,
The vignette fades
To a hazy
Kaleidoscopic
Dream.

Nostalgia brings
Tears of joy,
Weeps away fears
And deeply
Heals.

Graceful Bee Orchid

image

Along a shady glade,
A petite purple spire,
Whistfully waves.

Miniature mouths
Melodious,
Like a cherubic
Chorus,
Releasing
Ethereal,
Spangled
Golden dust.

Wild bees
Gleefully graze
On the graceful
Bee orchid.

Salty sailing dream

image

Beached boats,
Huddled, hoping
To sail with
The incoming
Tide.

A dreamy flotilla
Follows creeks
Through
The salt marshes,
Meditatively
Meandering.

Bitterns hoot,
Black headed
Seagulls squark,
Salty,
Sea Lavender
Seduces
Sailors.

Southerly breezes
Fill mainsails
And jibs;
Shimmering
Seaspray spits
On faces
Dried by
Samphire,
Salty
Winds.

Naturally
Heeling,
Sailors intuitively
Right their boats
As rippling
Waters
Rhythmically
Slap
Against
Their bows.

Painterly colourful,
Pristine regatta
Proudly,  powers
Out to sea
Where
Sea faring
Story
Filled clouds,
Meet
The Ocean.

Weekly Photo challenge: Nature’s my companion

image

A cuckoo wakes me
From my slumber,
Sunbeams warm
My face,
I venture out
To my garden
Brimming
With cherished
Cottage garden
Flowers,
Shades of
Fondant fancies
and
Tumbling
Roses, frilly
Favourites
Of my youth.
Gathering
Notebook
And camera,
I start the
Adventure
With my
Collies
At my side.
We walk
Along the
Country lane,
Surrounded
By white confetti
Hedgerows.
Cabbage White
And Orange tip,
Dart about
Like inquisitive
Chaperones.
When evening comes
In sultry moans,
The breeze intones
A lulling soft woe;
Stillness follows
In soft focus
Dimming daylight.
I sit undisturbed
To soak up nature,
Forever
My companion.

The weekly challenge is to post a photograph which is inspired by the word ‘companionable’. As usual I’ve written a poem to match my photo. I hope you enjoy it.daily-prompt-companionable

Village of Little Terns

image

Amid the dunes
Little Terns cry,
Sweep and dive,
Performing
Majestic aerial acrobatics.
A sleek vision in white
With dashes of charcoal;
They flurry about with pride.
House proud,
Cleaning and preening,
Warding off slithering Adders
And swooping Black Gulls
Their breeding village is protected
With fences which
Zap you,
‘Woe betide’
The curious rambler.

Foxglove medley

image

Foxglove medley
Like ladies in
Floral tea dresses,
Waiting to dance,
Fluttering and muttering,
To catch the eyes
Of a suitor.
Towering bells
Of dusky pinks,
Creamy yellows
And lacy whites,
Tantalizing bees
To look inside
The cavernous
Honey pots of pollen
They provide.
